About the event
Mary Gawthorpe - Bramley resident, teacher, suffragette, artist, activist, trade unionist and pioneer.
Join us for a guided heritage walk exploring the Bramley roots of Mary Gawthorpe, one of Leeds’s most inspiring voices in the women’s suffrage movement. Along the way, you’ll hear how her life as a local resident and teacher connected her to national activism, the Pankhursts, the Women’s Social and Political Union, trade unionism and life in New York City.
Starting and finishing at Bramley Baths, the walk will discover Mary’s role in local life and visit places linked to her legacy, including her Bramley connections, the Blue Plaque and the new mural celebrating her achievements.
Additional information
The walk will last approximately 1.5 hours and is suitable for all ages. Children must be accompanied by an adult. Please wear suitable footwear and come prepared for the weather.
