Let’s Dive in!

Welcome to the first instalment of our new blog, launched to mark the start of an exciting new chapter at Bramley Baths (BB).

So what’s going on?

Well, you may have heard that BB has been awarded funding from The National Lottery Heritage Fund for our project #Morethanapool. We shared the news in spring and since then, lots of work has been going on behind the scenes. Support from The National Lottery Heritage Fund is recognition that BB is an important and special place, not just for our local community but the wider city of Leeds and the heritage sector.

#Morethanapool is an exciting and ambitious project. This first phase of funding will support initial work to restore and protect the unique building, and pilot new activities around heritage, arts, culture and wellbeing, for local people and to bring new people to BB; the overall aim being to make the building and vital services sustainable for the long term future. Announcing the big news in March, Helen Featherstone, Director of England, North at The National Lottery Heritage Fund, said: “We are delighted to support Bramley Baths with the initial phase of their ambitious restoration project. Thanks to National Lottery players, they can continue to develop their plans to safeguard the building and the many stories held within its walls for future generations.”

What happens next?

The next two years will be a busy and exciting time. And we want to share progress and tell the story of #Morethanapool as things take shape. We hope this blog will do just that.

Every month we’ll be sharing updates so our members and supporters – new and old and from far and wide - can come with us on this journey. And we’ll be introducing key contributors to the project.

As a starter for ten, let me introduce myself.  I’m Helen (Whiteley), one of the Business Development Managers, and if you’re already a visitor to BB you’ve probably seen me around. I love heritage and how special places, like BB, are celebrated and enjoyed, still full of life and serving their communities as vital local assets. I’ll be leading on the community activities for #Morethanapool and I want to hear what people would like to see in Bramley and at BB. So please come and say hello or drop me an email helen@bramleybaths.com.

This new chapter is about to begin so come with us as we dive in! Follow us on our social media, look out for notices around the building and via other channels across the city, and sign up to this blog to keep up to date with what’s on and how the project progresses.

Until next time ….watch this space!
